India
is one of the most exotic and popular birding destinations
offering almost 1200 species and varied
habitats – the high Himalayas, North Indian
plains, evergreen forests of North-East India and Western
Ghats, Deccan Plateau, Thar Desert, Coastal plains and
Mangroves.
Being a subcontinent and far too large to be covered in
a single tour we offer specialized and tailor made birding
and wildlife tours for each region of India. We organize
trips not only to the well trodden destinations of India
but also to the almost unknown birding sites!
In fact, we enjoy the challenge of organizing birding trips
to these destinations to suit individual needs.
Our trips have included a photo tour during monsoon time
to shoot displaying floricans in remote
south Rajasthan and trip to Tirthan Valley in the Great
Himalayan National Park in search of rare Western
Tragopan and other pheasants. Another exploratory
trip is in the offing to the Mishmi Hills, north-east India
for those who like the idea of exploring untrodden
birding trails in search of birds.
Our regular birding itineraries include North
India and the Himalayan foothills (Indian Skimmer,
Ibisbill, Sand Lark, Wallcreeper, Hodgson’s Bushchat,
Lammergeier, Nepal Wren Babbler). Gujarat
and western India (Crab Plover, Great Indian Bustard,
Demoiselle Crane, Laggar Falcon, Red-naped Falcon, Syke’s
Lark) and Kaziranga,
Nameri and Eagle’s Nest Wildlife Sanctuary (Bengal
Florican, White-winged Wood Duck, Ward’s Trogon,
Blyth’s Tragopan, Rufous-necked Hornbill, Bugun
Liocichla).
Successful birding tours, to us, means not only listing unending
number of bird species for the tour but also
to cater to the individual needs of
tour participants like individual food preferences and
other activities including visits to local cultural sites
to keep the non-birding spouses busy.
Our tours are ideal for people looking for customized
birding tours that have flexibility of being
altered to suit personal needs. Tailor-made tours can
be offered with itineraries as wild as one can think
of. Unless you insist to bird from dusk to dawn, we do
not forget to include enroute visits to wonderful historical
monuments like Taj Mahal.
Our itineraries offer great opportunities to observe mammals
of India like Tiger, Asian Elephant, Asiatic
Lion, Leopard, Great Indian One-horned Rhinoceros, Indian
Wild Buffalo and the Blackbuck.
We also organise butterfly-watching, cultural
and historical tours that meet specific requirements
of our clients.
Tragopan Tours is run by people who have organized birding
tours for more than ten years. Our unrivalled wealth
of experience and local contacts has
been responsible for the success of our tours.
